Superior Ambulance Service implements environmentally-friendly initiatives

Superior Air-Ground Ambulance Service, Inc. located in Elmhurst, Illinois has taken an active roll in the Cool Cities initiative.  As you approach this 5 story building on the hill, you can’t help but notice its sleek look with its green glass façade and slew of decorated ambulances out front.  Aside from the green exterior, it’s the inside that will really make you green – green with envy over the environmental-friendly and high tech features this building boasts.

Superior participates in many recycling programs with its staff, from paper-only recycling to mixed-bag recycling in efforts to reduce the waste to our landfills.  The building itself is built with room to grow from the removable walls to removable flooring, for easy transformation and access to building networking.  The air which circulates the building is recycled as well as the cleaning supplies.  Although the building has plenty of natural lighting, it is still equipped with high-energy florescent lights and Smart Lighting systems throughout the building.  Currently, Superior is evaluating changing its operations to become LEED Certified.

Superior Air-Ground Ambulance Service, Inc. has been in Elmhurst since 1960 and is the first emergency ambulance service in DuPage County, Illinois – immediately west of Chicago.  In the early years, Superior operated one ambulance out of the family home.  Now, only a generation later Superior has multiple divisions in the emergency medical industry,  operates 23 satellite locations in 3 states, maintains  a fleet of over 250 ambulances,  and employs over 1600 individuals with over 1000 being licensed EMS personnel.  This is what now makes Superior the largest independent, locally owned and operated EMS provider in the Chicagoland area.
